It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Franklyn Alexander Bird, who died peacefully on June 1, 2025, at the age of 80.

Franklyn Alexander Bird passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025. Born on September 28, 1944, in the beautiful twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda, Franklyn was a proud Antiguan through and through. He grew up surrounded by the vibrant culture, warmth, and natural beauty of the Caribbean — influences that shaped his personality and spirit for life.

Though his journey eventually took him away from his homeland to pursue his career, Franklyn carried Antigua in his heart wherever he went. He often spoke fondly of his early years on the island: the music that filled the air, the scent of home-cooked meals, the laughter of neighbors, and the sense of community that defined his upbringing. He remained deeply connected to his roots, never missing a chance to share the richness of Antiguan culture with friends, family, and colleagues abroad.

Franklyn dedicated much of his life to his work with BWIA, where he earned the admiration and respect of all who worked with him. Known for his love of music, classic cars, and his unmistakable charm, Franklyn lit up every room he entered. His humor, relaxed spirit, and outgoing nature made him unforgettable to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was a devoted father to Patrick, Craig, Michael, Serena, Alex, and Antony, who each carry a part of his legacy — stron, loving, proud of their roots, and full of life. A cherished brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Franklyn’s memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

He leaves behind not just a family, but a story that began on a small island in the Caribbean and touched the lives of many across the world.
