Tropical Storm Lorenzo remains poorly organized as it moves northwestward across the central tropical Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center said Monday evening.

At 5 p.m. AST, Lorenzo’s center was located near latitude 15.2 N, longitude 41.7 W — about 1,180 miles (1,895 kilometers) west of the Cabo Verde Islands. The storm is packing maximum sustained winds of 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts and is moving northwest at 12 mph (19 km/h).

Forecasters expect this general motion to continue through Tuesday, followed by a turn toward the north Tuesday night and a northeastward track on Wednesday. Little change in strength is forecast in the short term, though gradual intensification remains possible later in the week.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend up to 160 miles (260 kilometers) from the center. The minimum central pressure is 1002 millibars (29.59 inches).

There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, and the system poses no immediate threat to land.
