Sprinter Tyra Fenton has been named Junior Sportswoman of the Year 2025 at the Antigua and Barbuda National Sports Awards, held under the auspices of Sports Minister Daryll S. Matthew.
Matthew, minister of education, sports and creative industries, presented the award, which recognizes outstanding performance and potential among the nation’s junior athletes.
Fenton produced a strong season on the track, capturing gold in the Under-17 400 meters and bronze in the 200 meters at the CARIFTA Games. She also competed in the open national division and is ranked among the world’s top Under-18 athletes.
Officials said her performances throughout the year reflected consistency and maturity beyond her age, positioning her among the country’s leading young talents in athletics.
As part of the award, Fenton received a two-year scholarship from the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus to support her continued academic and athletic development.
The National Sports Awards recognize athletes, coaches and officials who have made significant contributions to sport in Antigua and Barbuda.
