Polling Stations Open on Time for St. Philip North By-Election

All seven polling stations in the St. Philip North constituency opened on schedule at 6 a.m. Monday as voters began casting ballots in the by-election to choose a new parliamentary representative.

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission said polling locations across the constituency were operational at the designated start time, 6 a.m allowing eligible voters to begin voting early in the morning.

The by-election was called following the resignation of longtime St. Philip North representative Sir Robin Yearwood , bringing to an end a parliamentary career spanning five decades.

Voters are choosing between the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s Randy Baltimore and the United Progressive Party’s Alex Browne , a former senator who resigned his Senate seat to contest the constituency.

Election officials also noted that the vote marks the first time transparent ballot boxes are being used in Antigua and Barbuda as part of efforts to strengthen transparency in the electoral process. Polls are scheduled to close later this evening before ballots are counted.
