Government Allocates $30M to Clear Back Pay as Weekly Payments Continue

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the government has committed approximately $30 million to settle outstanding back pay owed to public sector workers, with weekly payments already underway.

Speaking on Pointe FM’s Browne and Browne Show, Browne said the administration has begun disbursing funds and will continue payments on a rolling basis until all obligations are cleared.

He indicated that about $5.5 million was paid out last week, with additional sums to be released weekly as the process continues.

The prime minister acknowledged that delays have occurred, attributing them to the manual processing system used to manage payments.

He said thousands of vouchers must be processed individually, which has slowed the pace of disbursements despite the availability of funds.

Browne noted that more than 10,000 vouchers are being handled, requiring careful verification before payments are issued.

He said the government remains committed to completing the process and ensuring that all eligible workers receive their outstanding payments.

The issue of back pay has been a longstanding concern for public sector employees, with the administration now moving to resolve the matter as part of broader efforts to address financial obligations and improve public service delivery.
