Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced moments ago that Antigua and Barbuda will offer free university education from September 2026.
Initially, it was promised that free university education for all Antiguans and Barbudans would commence following the expansion of the campus.
However, Browne said on Pointe FM that, after discussions with the Financial Secretary, free tertiary education at the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus will now begin this year.
The Prime Minister added that Antiguans and Barbudans will be able to pursue several degrees locally, included a law degree, free of cost.
He hinted that several initiatives to target free education at all levels will be explored in more detail in the party’s manifesto to be launched next week.
This is a developing story, more to come.
