Voter ID Replacement Applications Spike to 482 in One Week

A total of 482 replacement voter ID card applications were recorded during the week of April 19 to 25, according to the latest report from the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC).

The figures show a sharp surge driven largely by activity on April 20, when 393 applications were processed in a single day, compared to 89 applications on April 19 , the only other day with recorded activity so far for the week.

The report indicates that several constituencies saw notable levels of activity. All Saints West recorded the highest weekly total with 49 applications , followed by St. John’s Rural West and St. George with 47 and 46 respectively , while St. Mary’s North also reported 46 applications.

Other constituencies with significant numbers included All Saints East and St. Luke (40) and St. John’s Rural South (37) , reflecting widespread demand for replacement identification cards across the country.

In contrast, Barbuda recorded just one replacement application for the period, while St. Philip North reported six , among the lowest totals in the report.

The data also shows 56 new voter ID applications submitted during the same period, including 45 on April 20 and 11 on April 19.

No activity was recorded for the remaining days of the reporting period, suggesting that additional updates may follow as the week progresses.

The spike in applications comes amid heightened electoral activity, as voters move to ensure their identification is in order ahead of the upcoming general election.
