Beazer Details Plans to Address Roads, Healthcare and Travel Between Islands

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party candidate for Barbuda, Kendra Beazer, says his first 100 days in office would focus on improving healthcare access and road conditions on the island, with plans for a dialysis unit, a dedicated medevac service and immediate road works.

Speaking during a “Know Your Candidates” interview ahead of the April 30 general election, Beazer said one of his top priorities would be addressing the burden placed on residents who must travel frequently to Antigua for medical care.

“First of all, we want to purchase a dialysis, a portable dialysis unit for Barbuda so that we can limit these medical emergencies on a weekly basis,” he said.

He added that his team has already identified an aircraft to support a regular emergency response service between the islands.

“We want to put in place a weekly medevac plane… so that we can have a system in place for medical emergencies,” Beazer said.

The candidate also pointed to infrastructure as a pressing concern, saying road improvements would begin shortly after taking office.

“We want to have some committed road work commencing within 100 days,” he said, adding that residents should expect to see broader improvements by the end of 2026.

In addition to healthcare and infrastructure, Beazer said reducing the cost of travel between Antigua and Barbuda would also form part of his early agenda, particularly for vulnerable residents who rely on frequent trips for treatment.

The Barbuda seat is expected to be closely contested in the upcoming election, with Beazer seeking to unseat incumbent Trevor Walker.
