ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Sports Minister Daryll S. Matthew has praised Antigua and Barbuda’s young athletes following their performances at the 53rd CARIFTA Games, highlighting multiple medal wins and a series of personal bests across the team.

In a statement welcoming the athletes home, Matthew congratulated sprinter Tyra Fenton for securing two gold medals in the 100m and 200m events, along with a bronze in the 400m.

He also acknowledged Zonique Charles, who earned a silver medal in the javelin, and Maliek Francis, who captured bronze in the same event.

Matthew said the achievements reflected the dedication and discipline of the country’s young athletes, noting that several team members recorded personal bests during the competition. Among those cited were Ryan Aikin, Shaquan Garding, Jaeda Pigott, Shawn-Ze Joseph, Elite Thomas, Fenton, and Geron Henry.

He extended appreciation to the entire team and coaching staff, commending their efforts in representing Antigua and Barbuda on the regional stage.

The minister described the overall campaign as a successful one for the nation, pointing to both podium finishes and measurable improvements in performance as signs of continued progress in athletics.
