Prime Minister Gaston Browne says Antigua and Barbuda’s inflation rate is easing after several months of steady economic performance, signaling that price pressures are stabilizing following earlier spikes that reached double digits.

Speaking on the _Browne and Browne Show_ on Pointe FM, Browne said inflation fell by half of one percent in June and is expected to stabilize around three percent by early next year.

“In May, there was a minus 1% in the overall index,” Browne said. “In other words, prices fell by 1% compared to the previous May. In June… it increased by about a half of 1%. So we expect inflation to taper out on the 3% going into the rest of the year, early next year.”

He noted that this trend marks a sharp improvement from the period when inflation rates climbed as high as 9–10%, adding that key economic indicators now point toward sustained stability and growth.

“Every metric that you look at, there’s not one that is underperforming,” Browne said. “We have done so well with the country’s economy. We have attracted investments. We have provided growth for the people. Per capita income is growing.”

Browne said the government’s policies — including fiscal discipline, investment attraction, and support for post-pandemic recovery — have positioned Antigua and Barbuda among the region’s most resilient economies.

He added that the focus will now extend beyond economic growth to social and environmental development, arguing that national prosperity must translate into a higher quality of life.

“We have to look at the more holistic aspect of our development,” he said. “We want people to live really fulfilled lives — a wholesome life.”

According to Browne, the government’s economic and social agenda includes strengthening education, healthcare, and community infrastructure while maintaining growth across multiple sectors.
