Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called on churches across Antigua and Barbuda to offer prayers for Jamaica and for 45 Antiguan and Barbudan students relocated there as Hurricane Melissa batters the island.

During Sunday’s National Independence Service at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Creekside, Browne asked congregations to “seek God’s blessings upon Jamaica and His continued protection over the 45 Antiguan and Barbudan students who are currently in Kingston.”

The students have been safely moved to the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel under arrangements made by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, which is covering accommodation and meals until conditions improve.

Browne, speaking from Dominica, thanked all who helped coordinate the relocation and said his government “stands ready to provide whatever assistance is needed to ensure the continued safety of our young people.”

He continues to receive regular updates on the storm and is expected to return to Antigua on Monday.
