Prime Minister Gaston Browne has paid tribute to Rastafarian elder and cultural icon King Saggi-Fu, also known as Osagifu, who passed away earlier today.

Browne expressed deep sadness, recalling their shared roots in Gray’s Farm and describing him as “one of the senior figures in the Rastafarian community.” He said he had visited Saggi-Fu at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre weeks ago, after he was flown in by air ambulance.

“We were hopeful for his survival,” Browne said. “During my visit, I played some of my latest songs for him — including _Gassy Dread_ and _Love Is the Way_ — and he was delighted.”

The Prime Minister remembered Saggi-Fu as a man of conviction and cultural influence. “His passing is truly saddening, but we must be comforted that he lived a full and impactful life,” he said.

Education Minister Daryll Matthew also shared a personal message online, recalling childhood memories and describing Saggi-Fu as “driven, motivated, fearless and loyal.” He ended his tribute with the words, “Rest well. It is well deserved. JAHHHHH RASTAFARI!”
