The Ministry of Health began distributing prescription glasses on Monday at its High Street headquarters, with more than 100 people collecting their eyewear on the first day.

The glasses were prescribed during the Ministry’s June 2025 Health Fair at the Multi-Purpose Cultural and Exhibition Centre, held in partnership with United Hands Incorporated and the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The fair provided medical, dental, and vision services to thousands.

Patients identified with vision issues received single or bifocal glasses free of cost, fully covered by the government. Those requesting progressive lenses paid a subsidized fee of $75, a sharp drop from the usual $2,000 cost.

The Ministry said about 500 pairs will be distributed in total, underscoring its commitment to affordable healthcare. Distribution continues today from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ministry’s headquarters. Recipients must present a valid photo ID to collect their glasses.
