Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has won a third consecutive term in office after her Barbados Labour Party (BLP) captured all 30 seats in Wednesday’s general election.

State broadcaster CBC Barbados reported early Thursday that the governing party secured a clean sweep of the House of Assembly, extending its hold on power for another five years.

The result sees opposition leader Ralph Thorne lose his seat and leaves Parliament without an elected opposition presence.

Addressing supporters on election night, Mottley described the outcome as a mandate for social and economic reform.

“Our mission first and foremost is to stop poor people from being poor and to remove injustice wherever it exists to create opportunities for people,” she said.

The 60-year-old leader, regarded as one of the Caribbean’s most prominent political figures, also pledged to protect Barbados’ democratic institutions as the country marks 75 years of universal adult suffrage.

During the campaign, the BLP focused on economic stability, cost-of-living pressures and strengthening Barbados’ international voice. The opposition campaigned on crime and infrastructure, arguing for greater attention to domestic concerns.

Barbados, with a population of about 283,000, now enters a new parliamentary term under a government with a decisive mandate. Attention is expected to turn to how the administration delivers on its promises.
