Police have confirmed that the partially decomposed body discovered inside a vehicle at the Old Ottos School compound on 2 February has been identified as Peter Thompson.

Head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Assistant Commissioner of Police Lisbon Michael, made the confirmation during a press conference on Tuesday.

Mr Michael said investigators are treating the case as a suspected homicide while awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.

“We are now looking at a date for the post-mortem. At this time we are investigating along the lines of a homicide, but once the post-mortem is completed we will make a final determination regarding the cause of death,” he said.

The body was found inside a vehicle on the compound of the former Old Ottos School, which is currently used as a panyard.

Police said the discovery was first reported through the 911 emergency hotline. Officers responded to the scene and secured the area while investigators processed the site.

Authorities have not disclosed where inside the vehicle – described as a jeep – the body was located.

The investigation is continuing as police await forensic results to determine the circumstances surrounding Thompson’s death.
