Antiguan and Barbudan students at UWI Cave Hill are among those affected by an ongoing transportation crisis that has disrupted campus life throughout March, raising safety concerns and prompting talk of possible protests.

The Guild of Students says repeated efforts to resolve issues with the campus shuttle have failed, leaving many students—particularly regional students reliant on the service—struggling to travel safely between classes, residences and off-campus housing.

The issue was first raised with university officials on March 6, with students highlighting safety risks, especially at night. A suggestion that sleeping bags could be provided for stranded students drew criticism, while officials cited staff illness and financial constraints for reduced service.

Despite follow-up discussions, including a March 10 meeting and a formal complaint on March 14, students say there has been no clear timeline for restoring normal operations. Efforts to schedule further talks have also stalled.

The Guild has rejected claims that the shuttle is only supplementary, arguing it is essential for student safety and access. It has proposed temporary transport solutions, increased security, clearer communication and hybrid learning options.

With no resolution in sight, the Guild warns that continued inaction could lead to demonstrations.
