Antigua and Barbuda’s women’s team suffered a 4-0 defeat to Jamaica, despite a determined showing, as Khadija Shaw netted a hat-trick in their Concacaf Championship qualifier in Kingston on Saturday.
The home side was led by their captain Shaw, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot just before half-time, sending goalkeeper Anik Jarvis the wrong way.
She added a second shortly after the break with a powerful left-footed strike inside the box, before completing her hat-trick minutes later with a header from a floated cross.
Jamaica’s victory keeps them top of Group B with nine points from three matches and on course for qualification to the Championship finals later this year.
Despite the scoreline, Antigua and Barbuda’s players were praised for their effort and resilience, with the team noting a “strong and spirited performance” at full-time.
