The government of Antigua and Barbuda will reintroduce its zero-rated ABST initiative in August, offering tax-free shopping on select items as part of efforts to ease back-to-school expenses for families.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne confirmed that the measure, which removes the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax from essential goods, will be timed to coincide with the start of the new school term.

He said the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to cushion the impact of rising living costs, noting that authorities are continuing to monitor inflation trends and will adjust policies where necessary.

The tax-free window is expected to cover a range of school-related items and household essentials, providing temporary relief to parents preparing for the academic year.

Officials say the move builds on previous ABST relief periods and is intended to support families during one of the most financially demanding times of the year.
