Prime Minister Gaston Browne told supporters that ABLP candidate Lamin Newton has the potential to become prime minister, as he urged voters to back him during a campaign blitz in All Saints.

“A man who can even become prime minister of this country,” Browne said, positioning Newton as part of a new generation of leadership.

Browne contrasted that view with criticism of opposition leader Jamale Pringle.

“Pringle just not ready yet,” he said. “After two terms, he has not grown. If anything, he has disintegrated.”

The prime minister urged constituents to “select and elect new talents,” describing Newton as ready to deliver continued development in the constituency.

“He will make sure that infrastructure is improved… to repair the existing roads, to bring you more scholarships, to bring you more land,” Browne said.

Browne added that Newton has already identified 50 acres of land to be subdivided and distributed to residents in All Saints.

“As indicated already, he has identified 50 acres of land that will be parcelized and made available to you, the people of All Saints,” he said.

The remarks came as the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party ramps up campaigning ahead of the April 30 general election.
