A social media post allegedly shared by a police officer in support of convicted entertainer Harrison “Jesse Fyah” Horsford has triggered criticism online and prompted concern about public trust in law enforcement.

The controversy erupted after a Facebook post circulated showing the message: “Jesse Fyah fam, it is what it is. Life goes on. Just one stumbling block we will pass over it.”

The post appeared shortly after Horsford was found guilty of indecent assault and serious indecency in the High Court.

Critics argued that the remarks appeared dismissive of the seriousness of sexual offences, particularly given the officer’s position within the police force. One widely shared response from the social media page “True Crimes Antigua” questioned whether a police officer should publicly characterize the conviction as “just one stumbling block.”

The post stated that members of the public expect police officers to uphold “law, justice, protection, and accountability,” adding that comments perceived as minimizing criminal conduct could damage public confidence.

It further argued that sexual assault “is not a joke” and warned that statements of that nature reinforce concerns among some citizens about how certain officers relate to offenders.

The criticism gained traction online, with many social media users debating whether law enforcement officers should publicly express support for individuals convicted of serious crimes while appeals or sentencing processes remain outstanding.

On Thursday, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda confirmed that an investigation had been launched into a social media post allegedly made by one of its officers following a recent court matter involving a sexual offence.

In a brief statement, police said the matter was being treated seriously and offered apologies to the victim and anyone affected or offended by the post.

Horsford, a well-known local entertainer, was convicted earlier this week after a jury trial in the High Court. Sentencing is expected at a later date.
