Antigua and Barbuda’s Sports and Creative Industries Minister, Dwayne George, met with members of the Festival Team and Festivals Commission this week as planning ramps up for Antigua Carnival 2026, with officials promising a larger and more dynamic celebration this year.
According to a statement issued following the meeting, discussions focused on strengthening the overall vision for the country’s premier cultural festival and ensuring the structures and planning mechanisms are in place ahead of the annual event.
Officials examined areas including organization, stakeholder collaboration, innovation and logistical planning, while also discussing ways to enhance the overall experience for patrons, visitors, performers, creatives and vendors.
George said the goal is to deliver what organizers described as “a Carnival to Remember,” while positioning Antigua and Barbuda’s carnival product as one of the leading cultural festivals in the Caribbean.
The minister stressed the importance of teamwork and unity among organizers as preparations continue in the coming months.
“The objective is clear — to deliver a safe, vibrant, energetic, and unforgettable Carnival that showcases the very best of the nation’s culture, music, talent, and creativity,” the statement said.
The meeting also underscored the government’s intention to continue investing in the development of the creative industries and cultural events sector, which officials have repeatedly identified as an important contributor to tourism and economic activity.
Antigua Carnival annually attracts thousands of visitors from across the region and the diaspora, with events ranging from pageants and calypso competitions to steelband performances, J’ouvert and parade celebrations.
Officials said preparations are already underway across several areas of festival planning, with the Festivals Commission and supporting teams continuing coordination efforts to ensure the smooth execution of events.
The statement added that organizers remain committed to making Antigua Carnival 2026 “bigger, better, and more successful than ever before,” as work continues behind the scenes ahead of the celebrations.
