Antigua and Barbuda could strengthen its position as a leading cricket destination in the Caribbean under plans unveiled by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

During presentations to government officials, CWI outlined a proposal for a new cricket campus at its Coolidge headquarters. The US$6.6 million project would include an international-standard training facility, modern technology, a cricket museum and a simulator. Construction is expected to be completed by March 2027.

Officials said the development would support sports tourism, cricket education and athlete training while preserving the history of West Indies cricket.

The discussions also focused on rebuilding grassroots cricket, particularly in primary schools. CWI stressed the need for stronger collaboration among schools, sporting bodies and the Ministry of Sports to encourage greater participation among young players.

Meanwhile, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons detailed plans for the upcoming season, including training camps, community outreach programmes and initiatives aimed at supporting players’ physical and mental wellbeing.

The franchise also hopes to create overseas training and exchange opportunities for young cricketers in countries such as England, Australia and India.

In addition, the Falcons highlighted efforts to engage Antigua and Barbuda’s Spanish-speaking community through targeted outreach and Spanish-language promotional materials.

Officials also discussed continued support for national players including Rahkeem Cornwall, Alzarri Joseph and Karima Gore through specialised training and mentorship opportunities.

The presentations reflected a shared goal of expanding cricket’s reach while creating new opportunities for youth development, tourism and community engagement.
