Four Detained After Alleged Attempt to Cash Stolen Cheque
Four people are in police custody after allegedly attempting to cash a stolen cheque at a business on Lower All Saints Road.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate the four suspects went to the business and attempted to complete the transaction using a cheque that had reportedly been stolen.
The business owner became suspicious and contacted police, who subsequently took all four individuals into custody.
The matter remains under investigation.
Police are using the incident to urge businesses, financial institutions and employees who handle financial transactions to exercise increased caution when accepting cheques and other negotiable instruments.
Business operators are being advised to verify the authenticity of cheques, confirm the identities of people presenting them and immediately report suspicious transactions to police.
