A protest demanding answers over the death of Rashawn Shabazz in custody and greater accountability in unresolved murders, missing-person cases and other alleged injustices is scheduled for Thursday morning.
Organizers say the demonstration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 20, with protesters first picketing His Majesty’s Prison before moving to the Legal Affairs office.
“There comes a point when asking questions is no longer enough. That is why this protest matters,” organizers said.
While Shabazz’s death is a central focus, organizers said the protest will also represent families seeking answers about unsolved murders, missing persons, deaths involving police and allegations surrounding the conduct of prison officers.
The demonstration will also highlight concerns about rape, sexual abuse, pedophilia, violent crime and corruption.
Organizers stressed that the protest is not politically motivated but is intended to demand accountability and justice for families who have repeatedly sought answers from institutions responsible for public safety and the administration of justice.
“A country cannot become comfortable with unanswered deaths, missing people, unsolved murders, abuse, corruption and families continuously begging to be heard,” organizers said.
Free T-shirts are being provided to participants, with arrangements for collection available by calling or messaging 720-2557.
The protest is being promoted under the message, “When Justice Fails, the People Must Rise!”
