Dozens of people took part in a public picket Thursday morning, demanding answers and greater accountability over the death of Rashawn Shabazz and several other unresolved cases.
The protesters gathered outside His Majesty’s Prison before moving to the Ministry of Legal Affairs, carrying placards calling for justice for Shabazz, missing persons, victims of unsolved murders and people who died in police or prison custody.
Shabazz died following an incident at His Majesty’s Prison while he was in custody. Protesters said his family deserves clear answers about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The demonstration also highlighted concerns about sexual abuse, violent crime, alleged misconduct by law enforcement and prison officers, and corruption.
Organisers stressed that the protest was not politically motivated but centred on accountability, justice and the value of human life.
They said many families have repeatedly approached the authorities and filed reports but have waited months or years without receiving the answers they believe they deserve.
The protest was held under the slogan, “When Justice Fails, the People Must Rise!”
