Agencies preparing for Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting reviewed plans Tuesday for the opening day, ahead of a final simulation exercise later this month.
Representatives responsible for venues, accommodation, protocol, policing and other operations gathered at Camp Blizzard to work through the Nov. 1 schedule.
The summit runs from Nov. 1–4, with opening-day activities coinciding with Antigua and Barbuda’s 45th anniversary of independence.
The schedule includes the ceremonial parade, an interfaith service and a Commonwealth foreign ministers’ meeting on small states, according to the ABS report.
Tuesday’s exercise was intended to coordinate agencies before the final simulation and the arrival of delegates.
Officials expressed confidence in the preparations while acknowledging that some details still needed to be settled.
“I am confident that when CHOGM arrives, when our delegates start arriving in a couple of weeks, they will see Antigua and Barbuda at its best,” Director General Lane said.
Organisers also hope delegates will experience the country’s hospitality, culture and food during their visit.
