Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called for partnerships between Swiss universities and the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus to expand training in artificial intelligence and computing technologies.
During a meeting Monday with Switzerland’s new non-resident ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda, Browne raised the possibility of student exchanges, scholarships and joint degree programmes, according to ABS News.
The prime minister pointed to the campus’s school of artificial intelligence and computing technologies and said Switzerland’s expertise could support collaboration.
“I’m hoping that there could be some collaboration between our university and one of your schools so that we can have some student exchanges and maybe even a joint university programme,” Browne said.
The appeal formed part of broader discussions on strengthening economic and technology ties between Antigua and Barbuda and Switzerland.
Browne said greater cooperation could help develop local skills, improve the country’s competitiveness and raise living standards.
No university partnership agreement or timetable was announced in the report.
