Barbadian attorney-at-law and former cricket administrator Philip Nicholls died Monday after collapsing during proceedings at the Supreme Court.
Starcom Network reported that Nicholls was appearing before Justice Dr. Patrick Wells when he collapsed. Barbados Today said he was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Nicholls served for many years as secretary of the Barbados Cricket Association and was also a director of the West Indies Cricket Board.
Tributes followed his death, with BCA marketing and communications manager Steven Leslie remembering him as courteous, helpful and a respected legal mind, according to Barbados Today.
Veteran cricket commentator Wayne Holder described Nicholls, affectionately known in cricket circles as “Lumpy,” as a dedicated servant of the sport. Holder also recalled his strong association with Pickwick Cricket Club.
Nicholls was the son of the late Sir Neville Nicholls, a lawyer and former president of the Caribbean Development Bank.
