Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez has thrown his support behind the Prime Minister’s Vision Initiative, which is providing free eye screenings and reading glasses to eligible residents in Antigua and Barbuda.
Fernandez visited the Cedar Grove Clinic on Monday to participate in the programme and encourage residents of St. John’s Rural North to take advantage of the services before the initiative concludes on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The programme offers free vision screenings and reading glasses to eligible individuals, with particular emphasis on residents aged 40 and older.
Participants are required to present a government-issued identification card to access the services.
Fernandez stressed the importance of preventive eye care, reminding residents that early detection of vision problems can help prevent more serious complications.
He encouraged constituents not to wait until they experience difficulties with their eyesight before seeking an examination.
The initiative forms part of efforts to improve access to basic vision care and encourage residents to take a more proactive approach to their health.
Residents are being urged to visit the participating clinic before Friday’s deadline to benefit from the free services.
