The United States government has issued an urgent alert to its citizens in Haiti, advising them to leave the country immediately due to the escalating crisis and widespread insecurity. The warning, released by the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince, highlights the growing danger posed by armed gangs, which have seized control of large portions of the country, making travel and daily life increasingly perilous.

While the embassy did not provide specific incidents prompting the alert, it strongly advised U.S. nationals to avoid all travel to Haiti and to leave as soon as safe evacuation options are available. Commercial flights from Cap-Haïtien and Les Cayes are still operating, though travelers are urged to proceed with extreme caution. The advisory also warned against relying on private helicopters, citing additional security risks associated with such transport.

In parallel, U.S. officials are pushing for stronger international action, backing a Kenya-led multinational mission supported by the United Nations to help restore order in Haiti. The crisis is expected to be a central topic at the upcoming Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly in Antigua and Barbuda, where new resolutions are anticipated under the leadership of Secretary-General Albert Ramdín.
