Antigua and Barbuda is forecasting its strongest tourism season on record, with 450,000 stayover visitors and nearly one million cruise passengers expected in 2025–2026. Governor General Sir Rodney Williams made the announcement Thursday during the Throne Speech, crediting new investments in luxury resorts and the continued diversification of the tourism product.

Sir Rodney said the surge in projected arrivals reflects the country’s deliberate push toward higher-end development while maintaining strong appeal to the broader market. Several major projects are in progress, including a new Rosewood Hotel on Barbuda’s south shore, a Nobu Resort adjoining the existing restaurant, and expansion of the PLH development, which now operates 350 rooms. Additional Barbudan-led boutique projects are also planned through new investment partnerships.

On Antigua, the Governor General highlighted the Nikki Beach development by Calvin Ayre and a new Marriott-branded property being completed at Yeptons Beach. He added that high-end restaurants are joining the tourism landscape as part of a broader strategy to enhance the food and beverage offering.

At the same time, the government is investing in capacity for the wider market, announcing plans to take a significant stake in the rehabilitation and expansion of the Jolly Beach Hotel to accommodate economy-class travellers, who remain the majority of arrivals.

Sir Rodney said the outlook reflects the strength of ongoing marketing efforts by tourism stakeholders and “the strategic thinking of the Minister of Tourism,” adding that the 2025–2026 season is positioned to be “the most successful year ever” for the sector.

The Throne Speech framed tourism as the backbone of Antigua and Barbuda’s economic engine, noting that the industry’s current momentum shows the long-term value of diversification, upgraded product offerings and sustained investment on both islands.
