Two people have appeared in the High Court accused of sending offensive electronic messages about the complainant in the case against former MP Michael Browne.

Jafari Matthews and Jerri-Ann King, both of Sea View Farm, are charged with intentionally sending offensive messages without lawful excuse. Prosecutors say the messages related to the high-profile case in which Mr Browne, the former All Saints West representative, was acquitted in 2021.

The pair were first charged in January 2022 and granted bail by the Magistrates’ Court under strict conditions, including not to malign or defame the complainant. The case was committed to the High Court in July 2023.

At a brief hearing on Friday, the court was told the formal indictment has not yet been filed but is expected shortly. The matter was adjourned to 6 March 2026.

    Both defendants remain on bail.

The charges stem from online communications allegedly sent after the conclusion of the criminal proceedings against Mr Browne, one of the country’s most closely watched prosecutions in recent years.
