Monday the 13th of April 2026 will go down in history as a momentous occasion, a changing of the guards, a re-shifting of the political landscape in Antigua and Barbuda…

No one saw it coming, no one living in the 1970s the 1980s, the 90s or the early 2000s could have predicted that a home grown young man from Barnes Hill and a home grown young man from New Winthorpes will go head to head as their party’s standard bearer in a general election……

This is not an Antigua Barbuda Labour Party or a United Progressive Party matter, it is not a Red or Blue issue. This is a matter of Winthorpes and Barnes Hill pride.

I still remember Dalso’s mother, Wilma washing my skin and feeding me when I was hungry and starving as a child. I also remember Freeland’s mother, Junie, dressing my toes when I almost cut them off with a hoe or a cutlass at age 9 or 10 and how can I forget her putting the oxygen mask over my nose during those asthma attacks.

As a born and bred Winthorpian, who once lived in Barnes Hill, it gives me much joy and pleasure to see two of my very own colleagues, friends and neighbours vying for the honor to represent me and my community in the halls of Parliament.

Whichever of you fine gentlemen emerge on top, will have my utter most respect and full support to lift New Winthorpes, Barnes Hill, Piggots, Carlise, Cedar Valley Gardens, Potters Scott’s Hill, Herberts, Powells and the rest of St George to higher heights……

Congratulations to you both and we are all proud of you guys…….

Now on to victory…… From your very own, Jermaine G Kentish……
