Clayton Jeffery has admitted to attacking his sister with boiling water in an assault that left her with severe burns and months of recovery.

The Bolans resident pleaded guilty on Monday to a charge of wounding with intent when he appeared before the court. Sentencing has been set for July 20.

The charge stems from an October 29, 2023 incident in which Jeffery chased his sister along a road in Bolans carrying a kettle of boiling water. Prosecutors said he caught up to her and poured the scalding liquid onto her back before kicking and punching her after she fell to the ground.

Bystanders intervened and the woman was taken to hospital, where she was treated for third-degree burns, a fractured left leg and a broken right hand. She remained hospitalized for three weeks and later spent about eight months confined to bed.

According to court records, there had been no dispute between the siblings before the attack. Jeffery later told police he became enraged after hearing neighbours repeat rumours he believed his sister had shared about him.

Sentencing has been set for July 20.
