Octavia Nicholas has launched an eight-part spoken word series aimed at raising awareness of emotional and psychological abuse, in collaboration with the Gender Affairs Division.
The project, inspired by her book Surviving a Narcissist, forms part of activities marking International Women’s Day on 8 March.
From 1 March, Ms Nicholas will release one performance daily on social media in the lead-up to the global observance.
The series combines spoken word poetry and expressive dance to explore the often hidden realities of domestic violence, with a focus on non-physical abuse.
“This project is more than poetry — it is purpose,” Ms Nicholas said, adding that abuse often begins with control and manipulation rather than physical violence.
She said the collection reflects themes of survival, healing and empowerment, drawing on her own experiences and stories shared in her book.
The public is being encouraged to follow Ms Nicholas and the Gender Affairs Division online to view and share the daily performances.
