A fundraising drive has been launched in Antigua and Barbuda to provide urgently needed medical supplies for hospitals in Cuba.

Organisers say the initiative is aimed primarily at people who have benefited directly from Cuba’s international medical assistance, but members of the wider public are also being encouraged to contribute.

The appeal, under the theme “Gratitude – Cuba: A friend indeed is now a friend in need”, is being coordinated by the Friends of Cuba in Antigua and Barbuda.

Donations can be made in cash or by cheque payable to Williams and Associates Dental Ltd. Contributions are being accepted at Williams and Associates Dental Clinic at Deanery during weekday business hours and on Saturday mornings. Donors will be issued receipts.

The group says the funds will be used to purchase supplies that are urgently required by Cuban hospitals.

Organisers have indicated that a fundraising event may also be held at a later date if additional support is needed.

They are urging those who have benefited from Cuba’s long-standing medical outreach to “give as willingly as you’ve been given”.
