Young Antiguan athlete Jaeda Pigott has secured qualification for the CARIFTA Games after delivering a strong performance in the Under-17 Girls’ 800 metres during the CARIFTA Trials.
The Antigua Barbuda Athletic Association (ABAA) announced that Pigott achieved the qualifying standard despite competing in heavy rain during the trials.
The achievement marked Pigott’s first CARIFTA qualification and came on International Women’s Day, a milestone the association said reflects the growing strength of young female athletes in Antigua and Barbuda.
Pigott will now prepare to represent Antigua and Barbuda at the CARIFTA Games, one of the Caribbean’s premier junior track and field competitions.
The ABAA congratulated the young athlete on her accomplishment and wished her success as she advances to the regional stage.
