The Antigua and Barbuda Festival Commission (ABFC) is proud to announce the launch of the first-ever Burning Flames Junior Road March Competition, a new initiative designed to celebrate and nurture the next generation of soca talent in Antigua and Barbuda.

Named in honor of the legendary band Burning Flames, whose decades of musical excellence helped shape the landscape of Antiguan Carnival, the competition pays tribute to their enduring legacy while creating a dynamic platform for young performers to shine.

The Burning Flames Junior Road March Competition will take place during the Junior Carnival Parade on Sunday, July 19, 2026, where participants will be judged at designated judges’ points along the parade route. The competition is open to Junior Soca Artistes, Calypso Artiste and Junior Jam Bands, giving young performers the opportunity to bring their energy, creativity, and carnival spirit to the road.

To recognize and reward their talent, competitors will compete for the following cash prizes:

    Winner: $2,500

    1st Runner-Up: $1,500

    2nd Runner-Up: $1,000

This exciting new initiative is generously sponsored by Honorable Daryll Matthew, Minister of Education, Sports and Creative Industries; Ambassador Elizabeth Makhoul, Chairlady of the Antigua and Barbuda Festival Commission; and Senator Michael Freeland, Deputy Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Festival Commission. Their support demonstrates a strong commitment to youth development and the preservation of next generation.

Minister Matthew emphasized the importance of investing in young creatives, stating, “Our young people represent the future of our culture and our carnival. The Burning Flames Junior Road March Competition provides an exciting opportunity for them to showcase their talent while continuing the rich musical traditions that define Antigua and Barbuda.”

Chairlady Makhoul added, “Burning Flames has played an integral role in shaping the sound of our carnival for generations. By naming this competition in their honor, we celebrate their incredible legacy while inspiring our young artistes to step forward and carry that legacy into the future.”

Through the Burning Flames Junior Road March Competition, the Festival Commission aims to inspire young performers and ensure that the legacy of soca music continues to thrive through the voices and creativity of the next generation.

The Antigua and Barbuda Festival Commission remains committed to investing in our youth by providing meaningful opportunities that build, strengthen, and showcase the future stars of Antigua and Barbuda’s musical landscape.
