The government of Antigua and Barbuda has approved an increase in the national minimum wage from $9.00 to $11.50 per hour, effective 1 April 2026.

The decision follows consultations with the National Minimum Wage Committee and is part of efforts to improve income security for low-wage earners. Officials say the increase also moves the country closer to its target of $13.00 per hour, with further phased adjustments expected.

Cabinet said the measure is intended to ease the impact of rising living costs and promote a fairer distribution of economic gains.

The move comes as global economic pressures, including higher fuel and food prices, continue to affect small island states.

The administration of Gaston Browne said it will continue introducing policies aimed at protecting households, strengthening resilience and maintaining economic stability.
