The Gilbert Agricultural and Rural Development (GARD) Center is inviting residents in Antigua and Barbuda to a community consultation on a proposed vetiver grass project aimed at protecting the environment and reducing soil erosion.
The consultation will take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 7 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church.
According to the GARD Center, the meeting will provide residents with information about the proposed initiative, including how vetiver grass can help prevent soil erosion, support land conservation and contribute to environmental protection.
Residents will also have an opportunity to ask questions, raise concerns and provide feedback before the project is implemented.
Vetiver grass is widely used in soil conservation because of its deep root system, which helps stabilise soil and reduce erosion, particularly on slopes and areas vulnerable to heavy rainfall.
The GARD Center is encouraging community members to participate in the discussion and help shape the proposed project’s implementation.
The organisation said public participation is important to ensuring that the initiative addresses community needs while promoting environmental sustainability.
