Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez says Antigua and Barbuda is continuing to see strong visitor arrivals, with several hotel properties reporting high occupancy as global instability influences travel decisions.

He said arrivals remain strong, with several hotel properties reporting high occupancy rates. Fernandez added that the numbers have been further boosted because the Caribbean region remains safe at a time when the Persian Gulf remains in the throes of military conflict, triggering geopolitical tumult and a surge in global oil prices.

Tourism remains a key pillar of the country’s economy, and officials have been closely monitoring international developments that could impact travel demand. The minister’s comments come against the backdrop of ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has contributed to uncertainty in global markets and rising energy costs.

Fernandez indicated that the Caribbean’s reputation as a stable and peaceful destination is working in its favour, as travellers weigh safety concerns when planning trips.

The update was provided during an exclusive interview with ABS News on Tuesday, as Antigua and Barbuda prepares for continued visitor flows and sustained activity across its hotel sector.
