The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) has unveiled a new campaign vision branded as a “Renaissance,” with party chairman E.P. Chet Greene outlining what the concept means to him as a framework for national development.

Speaking at the party’s campaign launch, Greene described the Renaissance as a transition into a new phase of governance centred on renewal and deeper engagement with citizens.

“Renaissance is a period that we’re now entering into — that period of renewal, refreshing, of advancing the development thrust of Antigua and Barbuda,” he said.

He explained that, to him, the idea is rooted in a “people-centric movement,” stressing that it goes beyond political messaging and reflects a practical approach to improving lives.

“It’s not just an abstract. It’s not a phrase. It’s the real touchstone of our local community,” Greene said.

According to Greene, the Renaissance will guide continued investment and expansion across key sectors, including healthcare, education, housing and tourism, building on work already undertaken by the administration.

“We have achieved and accomplished much, but the work continues — and a new burst of energy, a new commitment, a new building of a relationship with the people… is what this Renaissance is all about,” he said.

He pointed to developments in education, including the expansion of the University of the West Indies presence in Antigua and Barbuda, as part of efforts to improve access to higher learning and strengthen the country’s workforce.

“We’re looking at that kind of rebirth — a newness of thinking, a newness of doing things — all for the benefit of Antigua and Barbuda,” Greene said.

The ABLP has positioned the Renaissance theme as central to its re-election campaign, with Greene urging citizens to see themselves as active participants in the country’s next phase of development.

“The most important thing in this Renaissance is this people-centric approach,” he said.
