The Ministry of Sport says it is moving to strengthen sports development in Barbuda following a visit to the island aimed at identifying gaps and expanding opportunities for young athletes.

The ministry said it met with the Barbuda Council, along with coaches and school principals, during a trip on Monday to discuss ways to revitalize sports and improve grassroots programmes.

The discussions focused on building a more structured system to support athlete development, with an emphasis on creating pathways for local talent to compete regionally and internationally.

As part of the initiative, the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association donated football gear to assist with training and development on the island.

The ministry said the effort is part of a broader push to invest in sports in Barbuda and ensure young people have access to opportunities both on and off the field.
