Official Statement on the Passing of Sir Dr. Cuthwin Lennard Lake

A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

The Medical Association of Antigua and Barbuda Inc. (MAAB), alongside the entire medical community, extends our deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of Sir Dr. Cuthwin Lennard Lake, C.B.E., F.R.C.S.

Dr. Lake was more than a surgeon; he was a pioneer who represented the very essence of progress in our healthcare system. His contributions include:

    • Architect of Systems: Beyond his clinical practice, he was instrumental in building the institutional frameworks that modern practitioners operate within today.

    • Administrative Excellence: Serving as the Medical Superintendent of Holberton Hospital in the 1990s, he guided the facility through transformative changes.

    • Clinical Mastery: As Chief of Surgery, he maintained the highest standards of surgical care and mentored a generation of Caribbean physicians.

“He was someone who didn’t just practice medicine but built the systems and institutions that allow others to practice it today.”

His impact on the medical landscape of Antigua and Barbuda is immeasurable, and his loss is felt deeply by all who strive to uphold the excellence he championed.

    Sincerely,

    The Executive Team

Medical Association of Antigua and Barbuda (2026-2028)
