Dwayne George says he is moving quickly from campaigning to delivery after securing a breakthrough victory in St. Mary’s South in the April 30 general election.

George, a first-time MP-elect for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP), defeated United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate Kelvin “Shuggy” Simon as the ruling party swept to a decisive national victory, winning 15 of 17 seats.

Speaking in a post-election interview, George reflected on his political journey, having contested the seat previously without success before returning to claim it this time.

He said strong support in key communities, particularly Bolans, played a central role in the outcome.

“[We] won all Bolans boxes,” George said, pointing to the area as a foundation of his victory.

George also addressed his decision to align with the ABLP, describing it as rooted in public service.

“I joined ABLP to serve,” he said.

With the election decided, George said his immediate focus is on delivering projects across the constituency, including upgrades to a playing field, completion of a spectator stand and fencing, and road repairs.

He indicated that his early months in office will centre on translating electoral support into tangible improvements, as he begins his first term representing St. Mary’s South.
