Shirley Botchwey has congratulated Prime Minister Gaston Browne on his re-election, while commending voters in Antigua and Barbuda for what she described as a peaceful and orderly electoral process.

In a statement following the April 30 general election, Botchwey said, “On behalf of the Commonwealth of Nations, I commend the people of Antigua and Barbuda for their peaceful and orderly participation in the democratic process.”

She said the outcome reflects continued democratic engagement and stability in the country.

Looking ahead to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2026, Botchwey added that the Commonwealth values its continued partnership with Antigua and Barbuda in advancing “democratic resilience, sustainable development and opportunity for all.”

Antigua and Barbuda is preparing to host the 2026 summit, which will bring together leaders from across the Commonwealth.
