The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) is mourning the death of Dennis Richards, the artist who designed the institution’s logo in 1984.
In a statement, the ECCB described Richards as a visionary whose work became an enduring symbol of both the Bank and the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.
Richards created the ECCB logo on June 27, 1984. According to the Bank, the design reflected “the aspirations, natural beauty and collective spirit of the people of the Region.”
The ECCB noted that Richards was honoured during the launch of the Bank’s 40th anniversary celebrations in 2023 in recognition of his historic contribution and artistic legacy.
Beyond his work with the ECCB, Richards was remembered as an active member of his community who used his artistic talents to support local culture and civic life.
“The ECCB extends its deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and all those whose lives he touched,” the statement said.
The Bank added that Richards’ artistic vision and legacy would continue to be recognised throughout the Eastern Caribbean.
