The Wadadli Aquatic Racers (WAR) delivered an outstanding performance at the recently concluded Sonia O’Neal Swim Meet, showcasing both depth and excellence as several swimmers achieved key qualifying standards for upcoming regional and international competitions.
Leading the charge was rising star Isabel Nicholas , who captured the Age Group High Point Trophy , capping a phenomenal meet with a series of exceptional swims. Impressively, all of her performances met AA Carifta qualifying standards , with several—particularly in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 50m butterfly —edging close to the coveted AAA standard , signalling her strong potential heading into next year’s CARIFTA Championships. Her results in Barbados further reflect her regional dominance, following her standout performances at both the ASATT Invitational and the Republic Bank National Age Group Championships (RHAC), where she established herself as one of the top age group swimmers in the Caribbean.
In the boys’ division, Christopher Walter also turned heads with an impressive showing in the 13–14 age group , securing his AA qualifying times for CARIFTA. He further underlined his progress by breaking his own record in the 100m breaststroke , reinforcing his status as one of the team’s leading competitors.
Another standout, Tristan Nicholas , achieved a significant milestone by recording his first-ever AA qualifying time , while just narrowly missing an additional standard—falling short by a mere 0.04 seconds (4 milliseconds) —a performance that highlights both his rapid improvement and promising trajectory.
Meanwhile, Espriit Shaw delivered one of the most complete performances of the meet. Demonstrating consistency and strength across multiple events, he improved several of his personal bests while securing both AA and AAA qualifying times for CARIFTA and the Pan American Games (PAG) as well as an Age Group Record in the 400IM. His results further solidify his position as a top contender for international team selection , particularly when assessed using WA (World Aquatics) points.
Additionally, Elianna Spencer and Jadon Green demonstrated encouraging progress by achieving A qualifying times in several events.
The team’s momentum was also evident among its developing swimmers. Kaia Belle showed impressive growth, improving many of her personal best times and gaining valuable experience competing in a long course meters (LCM) international environment —an important step in her development.
Overall, the Wadadli Aquatic Racers’ performance at the Sonia O’Neal Swim Meet reflects a program on the rise, driven by talent, discipline, and a clear pathway toward regional and international success. With multiple swimmers already securing or nearing qualifying standards, the future looks exceptionally bright for the Antigua and Barbuda-based club as it prepares for the 2027 CARIFTA season and beyond.
