Saleim Harrigan has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2020 abduction and murder of Principal Customs Officer Nigel Christian.

The High Court ruled on Thursday that Harrigan must serve a minimum of 40 years before becoming eligible for parole review. The court ordered that time already spent in custody will count toward the sentence.

Harrigan was convicted earlier this year for Christian’s July 2020 killing. Prosecutors proved that Christian was abducted from his home in McKinnons before his body was later discovered with gunshot wounds in Thibou’s.

The case drew widespread public attention and became one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most closely watched criminal trials.

Harrigan’s co-accused, Wayne Thomas and Lasean Bully, were acquitted earlier in the proceedings.

The sentence brings to a close one of the country’s most significant murder prosecutions in recent years.
