Day of the Seafarer Message
From the President of WiMAC – Antigua and Barbuda Chapter
Ms. Shenica Sebastian
Today, the Antigua and Barbuda Chapter of the Women in Maritime Association (WiMAC) joins the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and our global network of sister associations to honor the maritime professionals driving 90% of world trade.
This year’s theme, “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks,” reminds us that while seafarers sustain the global economy, they must never bear the burden of an unsafe workplace.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our seafarers for their resilience. Alongside the IMO and the global Women in Maritime Associations, we remain steadfast in safeguarding these essential workers.
Together, we can champion safe, equitable, and progressive workplace cultures by advocating for zero-tolerance harassment frameworks, inclusive leadership, and secure reporting mechanisms.
Through these collaborative efforts, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering a safe, equitable, and exemplary maritime sector for all.
“Carrying World Trade. Carrying the Risks.”
